Claude certificate vs certification comes down to who checked your work. A certificate from Claude Academy or the public Skilljar catalogue is free, issued when you complete a course, carries a public verification link and never expires. A Claude certification is one of four proctored Pearson VUE exams, badged on Credly, and valid for 12 months. The Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code is a third thing: an Anthropic-issued Credly badge for partner staff who complete 8 courses, a 34-question assessment and a capstone.

Claude certificate vs certification: three things share one word

Anthropic uses the words carefully even where the internet does not. On the Partner Academy, "certification" means the exam programme: CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F and CCAR-P. A "certificate" is the completion record a course platform gives you. A "badge" is any credential that lives on Credly, which covers both the four certifications and the partner badge. The table sorts them by what somebody checked before issuing it.

The Claude Academy certificate: free, and it never expires

Claude Academy opened on 20 August 2026 as Anthropic's public learning home. Courses are free, you can browse without signing in, and a free Claude account tracks progress and issues a completion certificate at the end of each course. The older public Skilljar catalogue works the same way. Both kinds of certificate carry a public verification link, and neither has an expiry date, because nothing about them is time-limited: they record that a course was finished, not that a skill was measured on a given day.

That is exactly what makes a Claude Academy certificate the wrong thing to call a certification. Nobody proctored it, there was no fee, and no passing standard was set. It is still worth adding to a profile: Anthropic wrote the course and the link verifies. Just describe it as a completion certificate, because a reader who clicks will find out anyway.

The Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code

The partner badge is mislabelled in both directions. It is not a free certificate: only staff at a Claude Partner Network organisation can earn it, and Credly lists it under the same Anthropic issuer as the four exams. It is also not a certification: the path is 8 courses covering the stages of a Claude Code client engagement, a 34-question scenario assessment and a capstone project, none of it proctored, and Credly's template never lapses and lacks the Certification type the exam badges have.

For a consultant who deploys Claude Code for clients, it may be the more relevant credential of the two. Describe it as what Credly calls it: Claude Partner Badge - Claude Code, issued by Anthropic.

The four proctored exams are the only Claude certification credential

A Claude certification credential is earned one way: a 120-minute proctored exam delivered by Pearson VUE, online or at a test centre, scored on a 100 to 1,000 scale with 720 to pass. The fees are $99 for CCAO-F, $125 for CCDV-F and CCAR-F, and $175 for CCAR-P, before any partner-tier discount. Registration runs through the Partner Academy and needs a work email on a recognised Claude Partner Network company domain, which is why the eligibility guide is the first stop for anyone outside a partner firm.

A pass triggers an email from Credly. The accepted badge has a public page, a downloadable PDF certificate and a 12-month validity; renewing before that date is free and not proctored, and missing it means the full exam at the full fee. How to download, verify and add each one to LinkedIn

All three go in the same LinkedIn section, Add profile section, then Licenses and certifications. The values differ, and the expiry box is where profiles go wrong. For a certification badge, download the PDF from the badge's Share menu if you need a document, but paste the live public link into the profile; the PDF cannot show that the credential is still current.
