Is there a Claude Code certification, and which exam actually scores it?

There is no standalone Claude Code certification from Anthropic. Claude Code is scored inside two of the four proctored exams, two free courses issue completion certificates, and partners can earn a Claude Code badge. Here is which is which.

No Claude Code certification exists as a standalone credential on 17 September 2026. Anthropic's programme has four proctored exams, and Claude Code is a scored domain in two of them: 20 percent of CCAR-F and 3.1 percent of CCDV-F. Two free courses, Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action, issue completion certificates, and staff at Claude Partner Network firms can earn the Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code. "Claude Code Essentials" is the name of third-party courses, not an Anthropic credential.

Is there a Claude Code certification? Not a standalone one

The authoritative list is short. Anthropic's Credly issuer page publishes five badge templates: four typed as Certification, one for each proctored exam, and one partner badge. The partner certification FAQ names the same four exams and nothing else. So the credentials that can be called a Claude certification are CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F and CCAR-P, and Claude Code is a subject inside them rather than a credential of its own.

Checked against the official sources on 17 September 2026: the four v1.0 exam guides, the Certification Exam Policy, the partner FAQ and the Credly issuer directory. The policy lets Anthropic add, retire or replace credentials, so the list can change; the issuer page, not a course vendor's headline, is where that would show.

Claude Code Essentials certification: a course title, not a credential

The phrase "Claude Code Essentials certification" is a common version of this question, and the word certification is the misleading part. Claude Code Essentials is the title of at least three third-party courses: a free video course from ExamPro, a lesson series on egghead, and a course from Stormwind Studios. ExamPro is a well-known exam-prep brand, which is probably why searchers assume an exam sits behind the name. There is not. Completing one earns that provider's own certificate of completion.

None of these names appears on the Partner Academy, on Claude Academy, or under Anthropic's Credly issuer. A recruiter who checks will find a course provider, not Anthropic. The safer line is the course title, the provider as issuer, and the completion date.

If Claude Code is your job, CCAR-F is the exam that scores it

One fifth of the architect foundations paper is Claude Code configuration and workflows. No other Anthropic credential measures the tool under proctored conditions.

The free Claude Code certificates and the partner badge

Two Anthropic courses are about Claude Code specifically. Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action are free on Claude Academy, which opened on 20 August 2026, and on the older public Skilljar catalogue. Each issues a completion certificate with a public verification link and no expiry date. Nobody proctors them and there is no fee, so they are course records, honest when labelled as completion certificates.

The Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code is a different tier. It is issued through Credly by Anthropic, but only to staff at Claude Partner Network organisations, and it is earned by completing a learning path of 8 courses covering the stages of a client engagement, a 34-question scenario assessment and a capstone project. Credly's template carries no expiry and not the Certification type the exam badges have. It is the most Claude Code-specific Anthropic credential that exists, and it is not an exam.

Where Claude Code is scored on the proctored exams

The exam guides publish a weight for every domain, so the Claude Code share of each paper can be read off directly. The item counts are Cred Farmer's whole-number allocation of the published percentages; the guides do not promise an exact count on any single form.

CCAR-F's 20 percent is a named Claude Code domain with six task statements. CCAR-P's 7 percent is a team enablement domain that lists Claude Code as one example, so it is an upper bound, not a share.

The CCAR-F domain is Claude Code Configuration and Workflows: the CLAUDE.md hierarchy, custom commands and Skills, path-specific rules, plan mode, iterative refinement and running Claude Code inside CI/CD. The Claude Code configuration post covers what those six statements ask. CCDV-F's Claude Code domain is about two items on core components and settings, though the tool also appears inside its application design and configuration management skills.

Is there an MCP certification? Also no

No, and for the same reason. The Model Context Protocol is examined inside the existing papers rather than credentialed on its own. On CCDV-F, Domain 8, Tools and MCPs, is 10.6 percent of the exam, about six items, and its MCP Server Development skill is 2.1 percent, about one item. On CCAR-F, Domain 2, Tool Design and MCP Integration, is 18 percent, about eleven items, and the guide's out-of-scope list excludes deploying or hosting MCP servers, so the examined half is integration, not infrastructure. MCP explained for the exams covers the protocol as examined, and Tools and MCPs on CCDV-F shows how small the MCP share is next to the skills beside it.

Which Claude Code exam should you sit?

There is no Claude Code exam, so the question becomes which paper scores the work you actually do. If you configure Claude Code, build agents and design tools, CCAR-F measures that at 20 percent plus another 18 for tools and MCP. If you build applications against the API, CCDV-F is the right paper and its two Claude Code items are incidental. If you lead deployments for teams, CCAR-P's enablement domain is where Claude Code appears. Every route needs a work email on a recognised partner domain, which the eligibility guide explains, and whether the fee is justified is the claude certification worth it question.

To see the shape of the questions first, the free timed mock exams for CCAR-F and CCDV-F run without an account. They show item style and pacing; they are practice data, not exam data.

Key takeaways

  • No standalone Claude Code credential exists. Anthropic's Credly issuer lists four exam badges and one partner badge, and none is a Claude Code exam.
  • Claude Code Essentials is a course title. ExamPro, egghead and Stormwind use it; none of them is Anthropic, and no exam sits behind the name.
  • CCAR-F scores Claude Code at 20 percent, about 12 of 60 items. CCDV-F gives it 3.1 percent, about two items. CCAO-F has none.
  • There is no MCP certification either. MCP is 10.6 percent of CCDV-F inside Tools and MCPs, and 18 percent of CCAR-F inside Tool Design and MCP Integration.
  • Two free certificates and one partner badge cover the tool directly. Claude Code 101, Claude Code in Action, and the partner-only Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code.

Questions

Frequently asked

The follow-up questions people search next.

Is there a Claude Code certification exam?

Not as a standalone credential. Anthropic runs four proctored exams, CCAO-F, CCDV-F, CCAR-F and CCAR-P, and none is a Claude Code exam. Claude Code is scored inside them: a 20 percent domain on CCAR-F and a 3.1 percent domain on CCDV-F. Two free completion certificates and a partner badge cover the tool directly.

Is there an MCP certification?

No. The Model Context Protocol is examined inside the existing exams rather than certified on its own. CCDV-F Domain 8, Tools and MCPs, is 10.6 percent of that paper, with MCP Server Development at 2.1 percent, and CCAR-F Domain 2, Tool Design and MCP Integration, is 18 percent of the architect paper.

Is the Claude Code Essentials certification official?

No. Claude Code Essentials is the title of third-party courses from ExamPro, egghead and Stormwind, not an Anthropic credential. Nothing by that name appears on the Partner Academy, on Claude Academy or under Anthropic's Credly issuer. Finishing one earns that provider's course certificate, which is worth listing as exactly that.

Which Claude certification covers Claude Code the most?

CCAR-F. Its Domain 3, Claude Code Configuration and Workflows, is 20 percent of a 60-item exam, about 12 scored items, and its guide asks candidates to configure Claude Code for a real project. CCDV-F allocates about two items to Claude Code, and CCAR-P names it only as an example in its 7 percent enablement domain.

Is the Claude Code 101 certificate free?

Yes. Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in Action are free courses on Claude Academy and the public Skilljar catalogue. Each issues a completion certificate with a public verification link and no expiry date. They are course records, not certifications, and they need no partner affiliation, exam fee or proctor.

Does the Claude Partner Badge for Claude Code count as a certification?

Anthropic does not call it one. It is a Credly badge issued to partner staff who complete a learning path of 8 courses, a 34-question assessment and a capstone, with no proctored exam and no published expiry. It is the most Claude Code-specific Anthropic credential that exists, and it is only open to Claude Partner Network organisations.
